The Smiths

With great pleasure I announce that my story SWEET AND TENDER HOOLIGAN is going to be in the Smiths-themed anthology PAINT A VULGAR PICTURE (edited by Peter Wild and due from Serpent's Tail some time). The idea of the antho was to take a Smiths song and use it as inspiration for a story, using the title. I think I came up with one of my best stories. Look out for other music-themed anthos from The Fall and Sonic Youth.

Congratulations on The Smiths story and the others...but that's not why I am here.

Guess what?!

I am friends with Matt Haig, author of The Last Family in England and The Dead Father's Club!

Well, not me persay, but Raymond's book is actually friends with him. That sounds even more strange, but it is true. I have created a myspace page for Saturday's Child, much to Raymond's chagrin. Just kidding, he's okay with it...now.

Right, so I added Matt and he accepted Saturday's Child's hand in friendship and then I remembered you did a great review and now I would like to direct him to it with your permisission...so is that okay?

I don't really understand Myspace. I had a quick look on there and I couldn't even search for stuff, which pissed me off. But anyway, you're welcome to point Matt Haig to my review of THE LAST FAMILY IN ENGLAND, but I think he'll already have seen it. He sounds a bit odd, though, doesn't he, being friends with a book. What does he do, ask his books if they want to go down the pub? Are you friends with books, Ana? Maybe you're more than friends? Is it possible to, you know, do stuff with a book? In a Weird Science kind of way you could write the perfect, most attractive book imaginable, get it published, and then do stuff to it.

You go too far, Mr Williams.

If you would like to see Matt's page (and the comment I will post linking to your site) or even the page I set up for SC. The links are below.

I offer you this bit of advice...do not fear and ultimately reject what you do not understand, Mr Williams.

Oh, and The Hoff would get his ass handed to him on a plate by The Diamond. That's been on my mind for sometime now.

I lied, those links do nothing. Your loss!

Okay, they do. Last comment. I promise.

Good one, Charlie. I always wanted to write a story based on "Panic." But I just don't know what "the Grasmere" is.

Anastasia said...

Oh sure, just bring it back to the original topic. Fine!

Only joshin', I am happy to report that Grasmere is a place in the Lake District in which William Wordsworth is buried.

Now you can write your story. :)

Tribe said...

What's the Lake District? Is William Wordsworth related to Ray?

Tribe said...

And where in the hell is Humberside? Is it anywhere near Detroit?

Anastasia said...

William Wordsworth is Ray's Uncle Billy, whom we don't discuss. (He's the 'show me on the doll where he touched you' kind of uncle.)

The Lake District is just outside Chicago and Humberside is next to Milwaukee. Both great places for beer and power tools.

So, have you finished the story yet? I would love to read it based on the information I have provided. :D

But honey pie, you're not safe there. Look at her face!

Ana - at end of day, myspace ain't local and it ain't from round here.
