Fame

If you google the word "lager", I come up 14th on the list (after "Freedom Organic Lager" and "Lesbian And Gay Employment Rights"). What is fame if not that? Is it possibly this?:

If you google the word "fags", I come up 17th (after godhatesfags.com and biggestfagsever.com).

Fame, I think you will agree.

Hi Mr Williams.
Don't worry, if you want to kill someone, you don't need any bullet nor any knife... Just tell him he's famous, just tell him he's a genius. And repeat it until he believes you. So if you're still alive, it's a good sign, no ? (I don't even know if what I'm writing is making any sense, but what the f#@~&).
Anyway, I've just finished Fags & Lager, and I wanted to tell you how much I apreciated it. The translation by Marignac is somehow free but brings a lot of power to the book (for the french reader anyway). I like the way you make it sound very easy to make up (and everybody knows it's not the case and it's hard work). And this time again, I laughed so much my wife thought about a heart attack in the middle of the night.
By the way, have you heard about a writer named Rick Harsh ? He did a trilogy called "The Driftless Zone." It's about some deadfolks stuck in a smalltown from where they can't escape just because the too high walls are in their heads... (once again, does my speach make any sense ? Nevermind). I've given one of these books to Aurélien and he liked it very much...
Well, I don't want to take too much of your time, so : goodbye & see you in Brussels.
Antoine Chainas.

Mr Chainas, I never heard of this Rick Harsch but I looked him up (didn't find much under "Harsh" though). I like the look of his books and I find that premise interesting. You could apply it to Deadfolk etc, sure. It takes a talented, brave person to escape. I'd like to know what he thinks of those who escape and then, years later, get recaptured. This is what happened to me. I am back in the driftless zone.

Really glad you liked the Marignac translation. See you in Belgique.

Hey Rick, I swear I never blogged one of your books. Not knowingly anyway. Maybe some other Uncle Charles did?

Escaped to Slovenia. Didn't people used to escape from there?

Drop me a line if you ever read this. I would love to read your books and I'm going to try to track a couple down. Slim pickings at the bookshops out here in the badlands but I'm going to try with this web thing.

Dear Charles,

I think I did respond, but it must have been eaten somehow. I was definitely wrong about the blurb--it was almost you, though, in that he was a writer and had a English name.
Which of your books do you think I should start with, if not Fags and Lager?
