Mamma fuckin' mia!

Someone passed this to me, (via Publisher's Marketplace):

Italian rights to Charlie Williams's DEADFOLK and FAGS AND LAGER, two "demented and hilarious" crime novels set in Gloucestershire, England's answer to the Deep South, to Baldini and Castoldi, at auction, by Malcolm Imrie at Imrie & Dervis on behalf of Serpent's Tail. French rights have already been sold to Gallimard.
It's amazing what you hear on the grapevine. This is incredible news... I'm off to celebrate with a huge pizza!

Jenny - thanks! You've got to pity the translator though.

Yeah, I must say that's going to be a tricky job--going to take some bizarrely bilingual type who will follow everything you say & also come up with some, ah, rustic dialect to put it into. I expect you will be getting some very funny lists of queries from the translator, you must think about posting them on your blog if the translator didn't mind...

I am going right now to the Serpent's Tail website to see if I can order Fags and Lager RIGHT NOW. Or I bet someone there will send me a copy if I ask nicely. This is very exciting...

Actually, Jenny, I've got an uncle who is both Italian and a long time resident of Worcester (the place which arguably most inspired Mangel). He'd be perfect.

Mind you, I've heard they already have a translator for it (and s/he had already done Pynchon and deLillo in the past), so the job's taken. Sorry, Uncle Giovanni.
